Cookies and tracking

Cookie policy

This site is deliberately light on tracking. Here is exactly what is set and why.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They can remember preferences, keep you signed in, or record how a site is used. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage.

What this site uses

The public pages of this website, meaning the home page, service pages, contact and legal pages, set no advertising or analytics cookies of our own. We run no tracking pixel and no advertising network. We do embed two Google services, described below.

  • Strictly necessary: the online booking form uses local browser storage to keep your booking session working while you complete it. Without this the form cannot function.
  • Third-party fonts: typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. No cookie is set by us for this.
  • Google Maps on the home page and the contact page: the map is embedded from Google and does not load at all until you allow it. Once it loads, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies in your browser, under its own privacy policy rather than ours. If you would rather not load it, leave it switched off and use the Directions link to open Google Maps in a new tab instead.

We set no analytics or marketing cookies ourselves. The only third party that can set one is the embedded Google map, and that is why you are asked before it loads.

The choice you are given

On your first visit a panel appears at the bottom of the screen with three options: accept everything, reject anything non-essential, or choose for yourself. Choosing opens a switch for the one optional item, the embedded map.

  • Reject, and the Google map never loads. In its place you get a short explanation and a button, so you can still choose to load it on the day you actually want directions. Pressing that button loads the map for that visit only and does not change your saved answer.
  • Accept, and the map loads as normal wherever it appears.
  • Nothing non-essential loads while the panel is still on screen. The map URL is held back until you have answered, rather than loaded and then apologised for.

Your answer is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and it is not sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data clears it and you will be asked again.

To change your mind, use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing permission is exactly as easy as giving it, which is the point.

Links to other sites

This site links to Google Maps, Google Reviews and Facebook, and embeds a Google Map on the home page and the contact page. Once you follow one of those links, or once the embedded map loads, you are dealing with Google or Meta and their own cookie and privacy policies apply. We have no control over what they set.

Controlling cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, usually under Privacy or Site settings. Blocking strictly necessary storage will stop the online booking form working, in which case call the garage on 01604 639539 to book instead.
