What a full service covers

How pricing works

The £40 is service labour. Parts such as oil, filters and plugs are quoted separately because they vary enormously between a small petrol hatchback and a large diesel. You get the parts price before the work starts, and the current 15% offer applies to eligible service labour confirmed by the garage.

If the service turns up something outside its scope, like a worn pad, a perished hose or a leak, you get a call with the price. Nothing extra is fitted without your agreement.

How often should a car be serviced?

Most manufacturers specify every 12 months or 10,000 to 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Cars doing mostly short cold journeys benefit from sticking to the time interval even at low mileage, because the oil degrades from moisture and fuel dilution rather than distance.

Servicing and your warranty
