What a Class 4 MOT covers

A Class 4 MOT is the annual roadworthiness test for most cars, small vans and light goods vehicles up to 3,000kg. The tester works through the DVSA inspection manual and records the result directly to the national MOT database.

• Tyre condition, tread depth and wheel security

If your car fails

A failure is not a sales opportunity. EE Motors shows you what failed, explains whether it is a dangerous, major or minor defect, and gives you a price before anything is replaced. You are free to take the car elsewhere for the repair. Advisories are recorded honestly either way.

Where a failure is straightforward, like a bulb, a wiper blade or a tyre, it can usually be sorted on the day so you leave with a pass rather than booking a second visit.

MOT and service together

Booking an MOT alongside a service is the cheaper route. The car is already on the ramp, so labour overlaps, and a service often catches the small items that would otherwise become advisories next year. Full service labour is £40 and the current 15% offer applies to eligible service labour.

When is my MOT due?

A new car needs its first MOT three years from registration, then every 12 months. You can test up to one calendar month minus a day before expiry and keep the same renewal date. Driving without a valid MOT risks a fine of up to £1,000 and can invalidate your insurance.
